Fact or Fiction: Using Camera Film as an IR Filter?

I just recently heard a rumor that it is possible to use camera film as a cheap and effective infrared filter. Now for those in the paranormal industry know full well the cost (and the pains) of working with infrared lighting. To find that it is possible to get a stronger and more efficient IR at literally a fraction of the cost would be great for investigators worldwide.... but first we must put this theory to the test....
